It's not been a good day for my wallet

My car needed new tires. Bad. I only got 10,000 miles out of this set. What can I say, I'm addicted to lateral Gs.

Luckily, a friend had two front tires in the type & size that I wanted barely used. Saved about $100 there.

The IDE RAID5 in my home server died last night. Now, a drive or two has failed before - Western Digital even has published a whitepaper describing why IDE RAIDs commonly fail (has to do with the error timeout of IDE drives and most controllers). Most of the time, I'm able ot mark the drives as online, run an error check, and all is well. This time, it appears as though the Windows registry hive became corrupt when the system died. It was only a matter of time. IDE RAID sucks.

I just ordered a Drobo. It's a USB 2.0 4-drive enclosure that does it's own type of virtualized drive pooling. You can add/replace drives of any size - all hot swappable. Pretty rad. I ordered 3 750gb SATA drives from Newegg to put inside Drobo.  That'll give me 1.4tb of redundant storage.

Next step is cleaning out our storage area behind the garage and moving my primary server down there where it remains cool. Dear IEEE guys, please radify the 802.11n spec ASAP! I can't run ethernet from my top floor into my storage area.

I picked up a Treo 750 to replace my Cingular 8525. Full review coming shortly.
