Moving 35,000 emails to GMail

I'm slowly pushing my life up to the cloud.  I've run my own mail server for ... 7 or 8 years.  Shout outs to Alt-N - the makers of MDaemon - their mail server software has performed flawlessly over the years.   I back it up weekly via S3 Backup, but I've never needed to restore.

I switched from Flickr to Smugmug

Huge nerdery.

AccuFuel is an iPhone application you can use to track your fuel mileage.  I wrote a little php script that captures the output from AccuFuel's email export and puts it into MySQL for easily displaying on my web page:

I also wrote a short article on how to measure your camber using an iPhone app called Clinometer.  I submitted it to Roundel, hopefully it'll get published.

Top Gear ringtone for your iPhone

I just made a Top Gear ringtone for the iPhone. It's short (11sec) and easy.

Home automation

There are a few new players in the home automation market - namely Zigbee and Z-Wave.  Z-Wave devices are already on sale at your local Fry's Electronics.   All modules are repeaters and they offer acknowledgement as well.   Although it has many advantages, it still can't even touch X10 when it comes to price.  I can order a 3-pack of X10 appliance modules for $15 on eBay - $5 each!   Z-Wave appliance modules are about 8 times that.

A Letter to my HOA

Here's a letter I'm going to drop off with my HOA management this morning:

NorCal Extreme. Rain. Snow. Tickets.

Helluva weekend.

Saturday, got up and rode Mt Hamilton and Mines Rd with Aleks, Raza, Ivan, Chris, and David.   Almost no traffic.... a perfect ride.

Saturday evening Fara and I went to Shadowbrook for our anniversary dinner and then went over to Amber & Jason's for Melissa's birthday gathering.

So... exhausted

Me and 5 others went and rode the "big sur route" today... 300 miles.  We met for breakfast in south San Jose, rode 130 miles of twisties, pulled into a campground and ate a lunch that we had packed, rode another 110 miles of twisties, then rode 60 miles of freeway home.   8:30AM to 6PM, that's a long day of hard riding.  I finally feel back in the groove on the bike.... especially after Carmel Valley Rd.  I love that road.

This would make a good screenplay

Lately I've been addicted to the advrider.com forums - a forum dedicated to motorcycle 'adventure riding.' Most of the participants prefer the dual sport variety (bikes with appropriate tires and suspension to travel on pavement and off-road - like the BMW R1200 GS Adventure)... but of course, it's not limited to dual-sports. Lots of guys on street bikes that just like an adventure.
